Coach trips

A number of evening excursions are planned for Friday and Saturday, these will depart from and return to the Members Bar at the University of Sheffield.

 

Only a limited number of places are available on each trip so book early! 

 

To book a place on one of these trips please call CAMRA HQ during normal office hours on 01727 867 201 and select Option 6, to book your tickets with their receptionist. As it is now too late to post your ticket out, you should collect them from the local information stand in the Members Bar.

Staveley - Tours at Spire Brewery and RAW Brewery. Choice of 10 Spire beers will be on tap for you to sample and a curry supper will be provided at Spire Brewery. A couple of pints will also be waiting for you at RAW brewery. Shuttle bus between sites. The bus will also call at the Speedwell Inn, which is the brewery tap for Townes (brewery tours not available here due to building work).

Acorn Brewery - A tour of this successful, fast growing and award winning brewery near Barnsley with beer and a gift bag to take home.

Cider trip - Woodthorpe Hall Cider and Arkwright Arms pub. 2 pints of Cider included at Woodthorpe Hall and a talk by cider maker Dick Shepley. Buffet included at the Arkwright Arms, which is the CAMRA East Midlands Cider Pub of the Year winner.

Local brewery open day

On the Friday afternoon, a number of local breweries in the Sheffield area that are accessible by public transport will be running regular brewery tours so you can go and have a look round, try the beer and meet the brewer.

Please note that you are required to book a place on a tour in advance (numbers are limited), the booking line is being operated by Margaret Croft, Barnsley CAMRA's Social Secretary, please have your membership number ready when you call. The phone number is 01226 714492 and is open 2pm to 7pm. Booking deadline is Thursday 14th April.

If you are planning on travelling to the breweries by Stagecoach Supertram services, CAMRA HQ can sell you a special ticket package of 3 day tickets for £8. Call 01727 867 201 during office hours to order.


Bradfield Brewery - brewery tours available to book. Get there on buses 61,62 (operated by Sheffield Community Transport). Alight High Bradfield. There will be a bar open in the brewery for those on the tour selling Bradfield beers at £1.80 a pint. The brewery is a converted Dairy Farm and photo opportunities may be available with one of the brewery's dray horses. MAP LINK / BREWERY WEBSITE

Pale Rider.jpg (1765861 bytes) Kelham Island Brewery - brewery tours available to book with beer available in the Fat Cat pub next door. Get there on buses 47,48,53 (operated by First) and 87 (operated by Stagecoach). Alight at Harlequin on Nursery Street and cross roundabout by Tesco Express to reach Alma Street.

In addition the brewery is sponsoring a heritage bus service which will operate on Friday from outside the Fat Cat pub/Kelham Island Brewery to the University of Sheffield. This will depart the Fat Cat at 14:00, 15:00, 16:00 and 17:00 and will depart the University at 12:30, 13:30, 14:30 and 15:30. As well as serving the AGM/Members Bar venue, this will provide a convenient link to the University tram stop. MAP LINK / BREWERY WEBSITE

Sheffield Brewery Company - The brewery's own bar will be open and tours available at regular intervals. Beer will also be available round the corner at the Gardeners Rest, the brewery's tap. MoonBeams NB.jpg (270620 bytes) Blue Bee Brewery - is expected to commence operation between now and the Members Weekend and will be offering tours for those that prebook at a cost of £5 including beer samples. Get there by bus 53 (operated by First) or bus 78/79 (operated by Stagecoach) all of which stop at the junction of Neepsend Lane and Penistone Road, alternatively Langsett Primrose View tram stop is 10 minutes walk away. Abbeydale Brewery FULLY BOOKED - two tours will be available, one before lunch and one after. 

Get there by bus - 87 (operated by Stagecoach) 75/76/97/98 (operated by First) or 218/293 (operated by TM Travel) and alight on Abbeydale Road near the old Abbeydale Picture House and walk down Aizelwood Road. BREWERY WEBSITE 



Little Ale Cart Brewery (also currently home to Steel City Brewing and White Rose Brewery) - meet in the Wellington pub, brewers will be around much of the afternoon to talk to visitors and show them the brewery shed. Get there by tram (Shalesmoor stop) or buses 11,12,14,57,58,66,77 (operated by First) and 78,79 (operated by Stagecoach). MAP LINK

Walking tours

Two guided walks with a local history commentary from your tour guide which will take in a pub stop or two. Please reserve your place via CAMRA HQ (phone 01727 867 201) then simply pay the tour guide on the night.

Mr Dreadful

 

Steel City Ghost Tours - Steel City Ghost Tours will be providing us with an exclusive Friday night tour of Sheffield City Centre on the Members Weekend. Led by Mr.P.Dreadful you will learn a lot about local history, not all of it nice, as well as visit one or two historical pubs. The cost of the tour is £5 for adults, with a concessionary price of £4 for senior citizens and Students, note places need to be booked in advance. SOLD OUT

Flood Walk - Local history enthusiast, real ale drinker and natural host Ron Clayton leads a Saturday night pub crawl through an area that was hit by the Great Sheffield Flood of 1864 and will tell you all about the local history as he takes you from pub to pub. The cost of the tour is £5 for adults, with a concessionary price of £4 for senior citizens and Students, note places need to be booked in advance.

Doncaster Beer Festival

Doncaster CAMRA Beer Festival takes place during the members weekend and can easily be reached from Sheffield by bus or train.

5 trains an hour run from Sheffield to Doncaster in the daytime and a regular service runs in the evening too, with journey times 25-40 minutes depending on the number of stops made on the way. An Off Peak Day Return ticket is £5.30, or a South Yorkshire Daytripper pass at £6 is valid too. (Remember to buy your ticket before boarding the train!).

First bus X78 runs frequently from Sheffield to Doncaster and takes about an hour. A First Day South Yorkshire ticket costs £4.80.

Both train and bus takes you to Doncaster Interchange, the festival venue - Doncaster College - is about a 10 minute walk from here.
